As a Northern Virginia native, it was a natural choice for Dr. Barnes to return home after graduating from veterinary school. She began her career as a mixed animal veterinarian—think All Creatures Great and Small—where she discovered her passion for delivering compassionate, high-quality medical care. In late 2019, Dr. Barnes transitioned into emergency medicine. She was drawn to the wide case variety and the opportunity to support pets and their families during critical moments. She spent three years at a large emergency practice before joining VEG. When VEG opened its first Virginia location in Falls Church in 2023, she jumped at the chance to be part of the founding team. At VEG, Dr. Barnes enjoys “helping people and their pets when they need it most” in the open-concept hospital setting. Her professional interests include critical case management, emergency surgery, and mentoring doctors.
