Dr. Cesar Mena grew up around veterinary medicine but didn’t take the most direct path. Curious from a young age, he was fascinated by everything from computer engineering to business, accounting to philosophy, and studied multiple disciplines. The work he kept coming back to however, was caring for animals and the people who love them. Dr. Mena graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Sydney in Australia and holds a degree in Animal and Veterinary Sciences from Tuskegee University. His graduate studies have spanned animal nutrition, biotechnology, conservation, and veterinary research, with experiences that took him from Australia to the Dominican Republic. He is also Fear Free and Cat Friendly certified. Believing each pet should be treated as an individual, Dr. Mena’s goal at PVS Tallahassee is to bring back the warmth and trust of the “family vet,” paired with modern, gold-standard medicine. Dr. Mena and his team are proud to care for every kind of family member, whether they have fins, feathers, scales, tails, hooves, wings, claws, or paws. At home, Dr. Mena’s family is just as diverse: a farm full of cows, goats, donkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys, quail, fish, multiple cats and dogs, and one 50-pound tortoise. When he’s not in the clinic or managing the farm, he enjoys scuba diving, aquaculture, and is an avid Trekkie (just ask his Dog Ezri and his cats, Data, Lore, Jadzia, and Geordie!).
