East Petaluma Animal Hospital


East Petaluma Animal Hospital (EPAH) is an American Animal Hospital Association certified hospital (AAHA) that provides veterinary services to a wide range of animals, including dogs, cats, exotic animals, and birds (including poultry!). EPAH has their own in-house laboratory. The hospital was founded in 1992.

David Rupiper, DVM

Dr. Rupiper is the veterinary practice owner who purchased EPAH in March, 2000. Dr. Rupiper has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1991. Residing in the wine country and owning this hospital had been a goal for many years. Dr. Rupiper graduated from UC-Davis after completing four externships in avian medicine at various specialty institutions throughout California.

He is an avian specialist, and board certified in avian practice from 2000-2013. He maintains a strong special interest in avian medicine as well as exotic animal practice. Dr. Rupiper sees all small companion animals at EPAH, especially dogs, cats, and birds, as well as small mammals. In addition to pet birds, he provides professional services for all pet avicultural hobbies such as poultry flocks, ratites, waterfowl collections, pigeon racing, performing and showing, cage bird breeding, etc. He has written two versions of a co-authored book, Exotic Animal Formulary. In addition to the book, Dr. Rupiper speaks at local bird clubs, veterinary organizations, and has been a guest speaker at colleges. He is active in many organizations including: Association of Avian Veterinarians, Redwood Empire Veterinary Medical Association, The Bird Rescue Center, Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue, California Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, Petaluma Chamber of Commerce, American Federation of Aviculture, and the Redwood Cage Bird Club. His personal hobbies include spending family time with his two boys, golfing, camping, fishing, gardening, and playing guitar.
