Cannon And Ball Veterinary Surgeons

Cannon & Ball Veterinary Surgeons has been providing diagnostic medicine & surgery services to our valued clients and their pets since 1991. While most of our patients are dogs and cats, we also understand that slightly more unusual animals make great pets too! We have expertise and vast experience in treating birds, reptiles, ferrets, rabbits and rodents. Even monkeys, pigs, fish, wombats and kangaroos are regularly cared for at our hospital.

Gail McDowell, DVM BVMS, MANZCVS

Gail has been with us since February 2013. Graduating from Glasgow University, Scotland in 2009 she began her career working in a companion animal practice in South Australia where she gained a good grounding in all things cat and dog. She comes to us with a keen interest in surgery and a passion for all animals, especially birds. She is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians - Australasian Committee. Gail passed the examinations to gain membership of the Australian & NZ College of Veterinary Scientists in Avian Health in 2015. When not at work Gail enjoys rockclimbing and scuba diving.

In 2003 she passed the examinations to gain membership of the Australian & NZ College of Veterinary Scientists in Avian Health. Kim has a keen interest in continuing education, surgery and medicine of all pets. She attends annual conferences in avian, reptile and unusual pet medicine. Michael Cannon, DVM BVSc, MANZCVS, DipEd

Michael graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from the University of Sydney in 1976 and settled in Wollongong soon after, raising his family here. He was awarded Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Avian Health in 1984 and was one of the first vets in Australia to surgically sex birds. He received his Graduate Diploma in Education from University of Technology Sydney in 1991 and in the same year established Cannon & Ball Veterinary Clinic (along with friend and colleague Dr David Ball).

Victoria Blake, DVM BVBioSc, BVSc

Victoria is our newest vet here at Cannon and Ball, joining the team in August 2017. Victoria has recently moved to Wollongong from Wagga where she has spent the last 6 years studying for her Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Charles Sturt University. Originally from the north of Sydney, she is looking forward to being back on the coast and enjoying all that coastal life has to offer. She is interested in both surgery and medicine and with two cats at home, has a particular soft spot for feline friends. In her spare time, she enjoys horse riding, bushwalking, yoga and playing sports.
