Dr. Cornelia (Connie) Ketz-Riley (Ketz) was born and raised in Switzerland as forth child of German parents. Shortly after her birth, the family moved back to Berlin, Germany. After four years, the family finally settled in Switzerland for good. Dr. Connie graduated in 1992 from the Swiss Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zurich in Switzerland. She, then, worked on her thesis about the cause of lumpy jaw in kangaroos and wallabies t varies zoos in Switzerland in Germany, for which she received her doctor degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Zurich. Afterwards, she worked as Clinical Instructor in Exotic and Wildlife Medicine at the University of Bern in Switzerland, before moving to the USA in 1998 to complete an Internship in Zoological Medicine at the Kansas State University.
From 1999 to 2001, Dr. Ketz participated in a joint Residency program between Oklahoma State University and the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden. During the residency, she passed the North American National Board Exam and completed her certification through the Educational Committee for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG), which qualified her to work as a veterinarian in the USA. After completing the Residency, she stayed on as interim Associate Veterinarian at the Oklahoma City Zoo for a few months.
