Praziquantel

Praziquantel is a synthetic isoquinoline-pyrazine derivative used to treat infections with trematodes (lung, liver, intestinal flukes) and tapeworms (Raillietina spp). It is not effective against nematodes (roundworms).

Praziquantel is rapidly and nearly completely absorbed after oral administration, but there is a significant first-pass effect after oral administration. It is very unpalatable.

Caution: When given as an injection it has demonstrated toxic effects in some bird species at high doses, especially finches. Chickens who received a dose at 100 mg/kg developed loss of balance and collapsed but signs resolved in 3 hours.

Storage/Stability: Unless otherwise instructed by the manufacturer, praziquantel tablets should be stored in tight containers at room temperature. Protect from light.

Disclaimer: Use at your own risk. We assume no responsibility for the use of the drug, dosages given and for any misstatement, error, negligent, or otherwise.
