L-Carnitine

L-carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid which plays a key role in producing energy. It transports fatty acids into the mitochondria to be oxidized and turned into adenosine triphosphates (ATP)s.

L-carnitine may be a beneficial supplement to add to the diet of chickens with fatty liver disease, lipomas, ascites and heart disease.

  • For lipoma reduction: 1000 mg/kg q24h (J Mayer 2013)
  • For fatty liver disease: 100-250 mg/kg q24h (J Mayer 2013)
