Kaolin/pectin is a gastrointestinal protectant that is used to treat diarrhea in birds "off label". It is an adsorbent that binds to bacteria, toxins and other irritants in the intestinal mucosa. It also can decrease the pH in the intestinal tract and can provide a soothing effect on the irritated mucosa.
