Flubendazole

Flubendazole is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic used widely in poultry in Europe. It is the fluoro- analogue of mebendazole and has similar properties. It is administered orally to chickens, turkeys, and game birds in the form of a paste, pellet, tablet, or premix for incorporation into the feed.

Flubendazole is effective against gastrointestinal roundworms (Ascaridia spp , Capillaria spp, Heterakis spp), and in higher doses, some tapeworms and Syngamus trachea (gapeworm).

Note: Do not give this drug parenterally to poultry, as subcutaneous administration causes intolerable pain, while intramuscular (IM) injections induce inflammation.
  • GI roundworms: 20-30 mg/kg added to feed for 7 days
  • Tapeworms and gapeworm: 63 mg/kg in feed for 7 days
