Upstate Animal Medical Center, located in Saratoga Springs, NY has been serving the community for over 20 years. They provide avian and exotic medical care to chickens and ducks.

David Tamas, DVM

Dr. David Tamas has been with UAMC since September 2020. He is passionate about exotics as Joy Lucas is which is a thrill for her and our entire staff. He graduated in 2019 from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He is also CVA (Cert. Vet. Acupuncture) Certified, which we could not be more excited about considering UAMC has always supported holistic modalities... Since being here for a few years the staff has watched his acupuncture appts help countless patients!

Joy Lucas, DVM

Dr. Joy Lucas is originally from Wellston, Ohio. She completed her undergraduate degree at Ohio Dominican University. She then attended the University of Tennessee, where she received her doctorate of Verterinary medicine in 1994. In 1995, she completed her internship at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Following her internship, Dr. Lucas worked at a small animal practice for six years in Albany, NY. In June of 2001 she purchased Upstate Animal Medical Center and hasn't looked back since. In addition to her passion for small animal medicine, Dr. Lucas has a strong interest in avian and exotic medicine. She attends specialized conferences yearly, which makes her one of the most experienced vets in the area. Her knowledge base and experience work hand in hand assuring your exotic pet is getting the best treatment available. Joy also volunteers her time to care for injured wildlife through Northcountry Wildcare. In honor of her late Great Dane "Zu," Dr. Lucas supports the Safe Pet Partnership Organization, which is a division of Wellspring, formerly DVRC of Saratoga County. In her spare time, Dr. Lucas enjoys many outdoor activities in the Adirondacks with her two dogs, Possum and Britton. Her other beloved critters include her Amazon Parrot - Hebbie, and four cats - Amigo, Bryce, Ruby & Smitten.
