Terbutaline is given to help relieve symptoms in birds undergoing acute respiratory distress. It is in a class of drugs called beta 2-agonists which work by relaxing and opening the airways, making it easier for the bird to breathe. It may be beneficial for birds suffering from polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon) toxicity caused by heating nonstick coockware, irons, ironing boards, heat lamps, or other applications.
