Cloxacillin

Cloxacillin is a semi-synthetic penicillinase-resistant penicillin. It is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. Cloxacillin is the most commonly used antibiotic for treatment of bumblefoot in birds.

Storage/Stability: Cloxacillin sodium capsules and powder for oral solution should be stored at temperatures less than 40°C and preferably at room temperature (15-30°C). After reconstituting, refrigerate any remaining oral solution and discard after 14 days. If stored at room temperature, the oral solution is stable for 3 days.

One mg of cloxacillin sodium contains not less than 825 micrograms of cloxacillin.

  • Neomycin: The serum concentration of Neomycin can be decreased when it is combined with Cloxacillin.
  • Oxytetracycline: The therapeutic efficacy of Cloxacillin can be decreased when used in combination with Oxytetracycline.
  • Kanamycin: The serum concentration of Kanamycin can be decreased when it is combined with Cloxacillin.
  • Tetracycline: The therapeutic efficacy of Cloxacillin can be decreased when used in combination with Tetracycline.
